Kangaroo at Little Desert Nature Lodge

Little Desert Wildlife Eco Tour – 2 night

3-day Little Desert wildlife experience – the best of nature and wildlife at our private conservation reserve

On this 3-day wildlife tour to Little Desert Nature Lodge and national park, come face-to-face with a wide diversity of native Australian wildlife – and possibly even catch a glimpse of the endangered Mallee Fowl in the wild. The Little Desert National Park is located 375km west of Melbourne, near Dimboola in western Victoria. Covering 132,647-hectares (327,780-acres) the park extends from the Wimmera River to the South Australian border.

More than 670 species of native plants can be found in the Little Desert, representing about 20% of Victoria’s indigenous flora. The biodiversity of natural habitats makes the national park one of the best places to see Australian native wildlife in their natural habitat; including kangaroos, emus, wallabies, bandicoots, bettongs, possums, gliders, bats, many kinds of reptiles, and over 220 bird species. Birds to spot include the elusive Mallee Fowl, the rare Southern Scrub Robin Parrot, wrens, currawongs, and honeyeaters.

Your accommodation is at Little Desert Nature Lodge – our private conservation reserve, offering comfortable accommodation complete with native wildlife right on your door step. Keep an eye out for our friendly resident emu ‘George’.

You will also meet our local conservation heroes who are ‘Rewilding the Desert’ and personally contribute to this world-leading wildlife conservation and research project. Visit a local wildlife park and enjoy close encounters with koalas, Tasmanian devils and other Australian wildlife.

Winter (June to August) provides cooler weather with occasional frosts and rainfall. The summer months (December to February) are warm and sometimes quite hot with temperatures in the 30’s. Wildflowers are at their best between September and November, and birds are best spotted between August and November – although there is always something to be seen.
