Play an active role in monitoring the local Flatback Turtle population during this rewarding travel experience.
Located in the breathtaking natural surrounds of Eco Beach Resort, this scientific research program collects valuable data on nesting Flatback Turtles. With the guidance of Conservation Volunteers marine species research assistants, volunteers spend their time patrolling sections of the beach gathering scientific data on the species. Research activities include:
- Recording nest and track data
- Tagging and measuring turtles
- Counting eggs
There will also be time to relax and take in some of Australia’s most spectacular coastal views, or enjoy the facilities at Eco Beach Resort. This is a truly remarkable experience and a rare opportunity to connect with our natural world.

Assist with turtle research activities during the evening and early hours of the morning. During the day there is free time to relax and enjoy the resorts facilities. BD

Meals are a group activity with everyone assisting with the catering. Meals are simple and wholesome, using fresh local produce. If you have special dietary requirements please let us know in advance and we are happy to assist. BYO alcohol is allowed in your accommodation, otherwise you can purchase supplies from the resort bar at your own expense. Additional meals and snacks may be purchased at your own expense from the resort restaurant (please note that during this time of the year the restaurant can be during the week).
Nesting / Tagging Program – medium. 7kms of daily beach walking during the night and early hours of the morning in hot climatic conditions.

Naturewise Eco Escapes contribute to wildlife conservation and offer you the opportunity to explore outstanding national parks and conservation reserves. Conservation Volunteers has been collecting annual data on the nesting flatback turtles at Eco Beach for a number of years. Turtle research activities involve daily evening and morning beach patrols for up to 3 hours, to check for nesting turtles and record data on activities.
Location and Transportation
This holiday is located at Eco Beach, 130 km’s South East of Broome on Western Australia’s Kimberley Coast.
You will be transported from Broome in an air conditioned 4WD with forward facing seats. The approximate travel time to Eco Beach is 1 hour and 30 minutes.
You will be staying at the award winning Eco Beach Resort offering spacious safari-style eco tents or beautifully appointed air conditioned villas, both with private bathroom facilities. Choose from twin, double or single room options. Linen is provided. Please note this research program takes place during the resorts low season. Services, tours, activities and the resorts restaurant may be limited and closed during the week.
