Discover Sydney Harbour National Park with our local Conservation Volunteers hose, enjoying stunning views of sandstone cliff tops and picture-perfect views across Sydney harbor, including the iconic Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Meet local ambassadors and make a personal contribution to local conservation efforts protecting the natural values and wildlife unique to Sydney Harbour. Finish the day watching the sunset over the harbour, enjoying a classic Aussie Barbeque and spend the night on the World Heritage Listed Cockatoo Island, in the middle of the Harbour. Not only will you be helping to save and enhance this rare species, you will be doing so in a stunning location in one of the most beautiful parts of the city!

Itinerary

Day 1 Sydney – Bradley’s Head in Sydney Harbour National Park – Cockatoo Island

8.00am pick up at Central Station, head to Bradley’s Head in Sydney Harbour National Park. The park is home to the Red Crowned Toadlet, one of Sydney’s unique and endangered species found only in the Sydney Basin.  The endangered red-crowned toadlet is a species of frog under threat by habitat loss, pollution and the invasion of native habitat by exotic weeds. Today we help remove exotic weeds to improve the toadlets native Sydney sandstone woodland habitat at Bradley’s Head. Other seasonal activities may include simple ‘call-back’ monitoring surveys for the toadlets themselves.

Enjoy an educational bushwalks in the afternoon before we take to the water for magnificent 360-degree views of Sydney Harbour on route to our base for the night – the world-heritage-listed Cockatoo Island. Tuck into a classic Aussie Barbeque before retiring to your camping accommodation, sleeping in the middle of Sydney Harbour. Meals: lunch and dinner.

Day 2 Cockatoo Island – Sydney

Breakfast, camp pack up and free time to explore the islands rich history, heritage and take in some of Sydney’s famous views across to the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Return ferry to Sydney city at approximately 12.00noon. Meals: Breakfast

Conservation Impact

Sydney Harbour’s National Parks protect many islands and foreshore areas around one of the world’s most famous harbours. Many of the parks contain endangered or threatened wildlife and plant species, unique to the Sydney region. These significant conservation areas are constantly under pressure from the surrounding urban city environment. Make a personal contribution to the conservation of these iconic national parks helping to protect the natural, cultural and heritage values of Sydney Harbour National Parks.

You’ll play a hands-on role helping with re-generation activities, removing weeds for a couple of hours at Bradleys Head, to help conserve the endangered red-crowned toadlet native Sydney sandstone woodland habitat by removing invasive exotic weeds. The endangered red-crowned toadlet is a species of frog that is only found within the Sydney region. It is threatened by activities such as habitat loss, pollution and the invasion of native habitat by exotic weeds.

You will be staying at a camping style accommodation on Cockatoo Island. We will provide you with tent, camp mattress and linen. Please bring a pillow, sleeping bag and other personal items for a camp.
